Oh the holidays. So much cheer. So much family. So much headache. So much love.
Every year, I get so excited to go out and find the perfect gift for the ones I love. I spend far too much time and energy wrapping said gifts, and then am left with a huge depletion of serotonin moments after gifts are unwrapped. And every year I have to stop, and remind myself these few things...
1. LET GO OF EXPECTATIONS
Just because you like to spoil your family with well thought out gifts, doesn't mean they spend 10 hours shopping and decorating like you do. Everyone celebrates in their own way. Remember that they are doing the best they can with what they have.
2. DRINK AS MUCH WATER AS YOU DO EGGNOG / WINE
For my family, the wine flows freely. Bottles upon bottles are let loose on Christmas Eve. And with the fire roaring, and the corks popping, make sure to hydrate yourself so you are springy on Xmas morning.
3. ENJOY EVERY MOMENT.
This year my mom and brother decided not to join our festivities. Although this was heartbreaking for me (family drama always sucks) I couldnt let the sadness take away from being with the family that did want to come together and celebrate. Holidays aren't about the presents, they are about enjoying each others company, and celebrating life. We are so blessed, and it is easy to forget. Let go of comparison and give your Aunt Jeanie a hug. These holidays go by too quickly, although they seem to be anticipated earlier and earlier every year. Sit back and smile. Happy Merry.
