February 28th marked the beginning of my first yoga retreat, as a teacher that is.
Sean Phelps and I embarked to Dallas, Texas to meet up with the southern belle, Jessica East herself. Once there, we met up with nearly our whole retreat group at the airport, and headed to Costa Rica!
I had butterflies in my stomach, as we started to get closer and closer to this tropical jungle I once called home... I hadn't been back since my accident, and a part of me never thought I would. But the moment I stepped outside of the airport into the sticky, warm air I knew it was so right for me to be exactly where I was.
We stayed in the beautiful and understated Tierra Magnifica, nestled in the mountains with a sprawling view of the ocean. Our yoga shala was tucked into the tree tops, where an occasional monkey could be seen. Our retreat was filled with so much more than just 2 yoga classes a day... it was action packed! We rented ATV's for the whole group, we went stand up paddle boarding (my first time ever), zip lining, surfing, and overall adventuring.
When you show up to yoga and you're wearing the exact same color scheme!!
Bonfire on the beach!!
Zip lining was a success!!! I even flipped upside down... freedom.
Overall it was an adventure I'll never forget. The food was amazing, the place was gorgeous, the ocean was warm, and our group left a lasting impression of my heart. Breakthroughs took place, from a teaching perspective, as well as through the knowledge we imparted on our students. I can't wait for next year!
