GLAMPING AT TALULA MESA, TEXAS

I didn’t realize how badly my soul needed to immerse itself into nature. To step away from the constant busyness of society, the seemingly endless to-do’s, and give myself a chance to experience a slower, more mindful pace of life. A life that is in rhythm with nature itself.

We drove just a little over an hour outside of Austin to the Hill Country near Marble Falls to a campsite, fitted with 4 dwellings. It was a sprawling property with endless views hosting 3 large glamping tents, and a mini tent — just big enough to hold a bed looking out over an expansive view. Our tent had hand painted bull skulls and other Native American markings on the front, and a large glass window in the back, so you could constantly feel immersed in nature.

It took a little bit of time for the buzz of the city to wear off. Most of the time I experience this underlying feeling like I am not doing enough, or I have to constantly be doing more. I have to remind myself that it is productive to slow down.

We brought the dogs, of course, and they had the time of their lives! Although we make it a point to go to the park with them multiple times a day, there is nothing like being able to run and play freely for hours on end. They were chasing butterflies and each other, until they could run and play no more. It was such a delight to watch their joy, and it instantly connected me to my own inner desire to play, and the to joy I also receive from feeling free.

Our priorities quickly shifted from all of our normal tasks, like answering emails, getting groceries, or going to the gym, to having to build and sustain a fire for light and warmth. It was so soothing to walk the property searching for the right kindling to start the fire. I felt so accomplished watching the flames ignite and take on a life of their own. The fire was hypnotic, and we spent most of the day sitting by it, tending to it, or just getting lost in the licks of each flame.

Being in nature always ignites my creativity. I feel so much wonder just looking around at the variety of wild flowers, and all of their distinct colors, patterns and shapes. It makes me want to create, and I feel so blessed that I get to simultaneously feed my inner artist as well as support brands that I love and care about. Above, I’m wearing my friend’s brand from South Africa. Her pieces are all hand made, multi-functional, and feel impeccable on the body. The styles are all flattering, and she ships everything plastic free. To me, its a no-brainer to support this woman and what she has built, with her ethics and heart shining brightly. Use my code MIKI10 when you shop here. You’ll thank me later.

Another brand I work with is Conrad Cushions, hand crafted meditation cushions made in LA. We are long time friends of the owner, and our visions align seamlessly. You might start to notice some of my photography popping up on their page. ;) (hire me for content creation) I’m wearing yet another favorite, Mate the Label. They are a sustainable, slow fashion brand, making the most delicious every day wear. I live in their sweatpants and the tencel pieces are to die for. Yes, I have a code for you! I love being able to give you discounts to these brands I love so you can experience them too!! Use my code MIKI.ASH20 to shop Mate, here.

If you’re looking for a reset, I highly recommend spending a few days at Talula Mesa. The owner is so caring and has put so much heart and attention to detail into this land. Be prepared to disconnect in order to more deeply reconnect with yourself.

If I’ve learned anything from the last few days, it is to embrace simplicity, and remember where we came from, and how blessed we truly are.
